History

Many of our residents have lived in Irvington Terrace for years. By 2005, many of our Irvington Terrace residents began becoming concerned about the amount of drug traffic and prostitution taking place a block or two from our homes.  For some of us, it was happening in our front yards!  But we didn't know each other as a neighborhood —many of us knew only our immediate neighbors—and individually, we didn't know what to do.

This most recent incarnation of a neighborhood organization began with a neighbor's murder. Though there have been many neighborhood organizations over the years, from crime watches to street-specific clubs dating back to the 1920s, two residents, in response to the murder, started a neighborhood crime watch in November 2005. To uphold the direction of creating a successful crimewatch, the residents hold monthly meetings. Surprisingly, for the first monthly meeting in 2005, many residents came from the many streets that were invited— Arlington , Webster, and Catherwood from Washington to Pleasant Run Parkway .

Monthly meetings were well-attended and in 2007, some neighbors volunteered to help expand the reach of the organization as far east as Kitley.  We now encompass 425 homes and neighbors are now getting to know each other across the community in a way that is uncommon and rare in an urban area.
